This score contains Some incredibly emotive and beautiful music. So underrated

LSO was by far the top Orchestra anywhere at the time. Recorded mostly in 1975. The orch members all loved doing these recordings, which comes through in the sound. The brass, especially, had a blast working with Williams. A true genius fir the ages.

I never heard the Cobb soundtrack, but it is an instant favorite

This piece turned me onto Barbara Bonney. I'm hooked. Bonney vocalizes the wordless strains throughout the film. Not to be confused with Laura Fabian who sings the final pop, worded version of this exact melody.

This is one of the most powerful soundtracks of all time. I stand on that. I never skip a track. I just ride the roller coaster of emo tions, and let it play all the way through.

En mi país estan pasando la trilogía de ESDLA y como en su tiempo no pude ir a verla en el cine... ahora si aproveché, la banda sonora es otra cosa en el cine... esta composición en particular fue la que más me gustó escuchar! fue D-I-V-I-N-O oirlo con la tecnología de diversos canales, uffffff aluciné!!

Sounds like pastiche from Strauss

I will NEVER forget the encapsulating beauty of this movie and soundtrack... The runner alien at the end had some of the best moments and looked horrifically beautiful. Weyland wanting the queen and Ripley dying was one heck of a cinematic and absolutely unparalleled masterpiece. Along with the score.

FYI: I'd rather listen to a longer ad at the beginning, than to have an incredible composition broken up while trying to enjoy it.

The score is absolutely beautiful. Being able to study the music is incredible. Here, Williams uses the Bass Clef, the Tenor Clef, and the Treble Clef. Cellists, be comfortable reading all three clefs!

Utterly beautiful and haunting music from a master musician. Thank you.

Such beautiful music from a genius composer, John Williams. His soundtrack imbued this wonderful film with such wonderful nuances that enhanced the film throughout. For me this film is special in so many ways; melancholic, sad, yearning, hopeful, and ultimately a beautiful though deeply heartbreaking ending. A beautiful film with beautiful music.

Beautiful music which makes Much ado about nothing memorable

My analysis of this under-rated composition is that there is the spiritually uplifting theme in D major (orange), which to me is the happiest key. But as the piece develops, instead of transitioning to another place (a different key), the D-major is inverted into D-minor, the saddest key. Therefore the change is internal, but also corrupted. The happy orange, becomes a ghoulish Halloween Jack-o-lantern orange A true reflection of D-major would be B-minor, it's harmonic relative (magenta). JS Bach's epic Mass in B-minor, in this sense, is a meditation--even an analysis--of happiness. I think the Dead Ringers is a mediation on self-destruction. We all do it to ourselves from time to time. But this piece is on a tragic level. feel Bach would have been pleased with Howard Shore's piece here. Imagined this being added to the contemporary concert-hall circuits. It's a shame that even in the Classical world of performance, it's still all about hype and trends. It's also a shame the film itself was not considered for any awards at the 1989 Oscars that year. Even Jeremy Irons was snubbed from the nominations for best lead actor, Horrifically, one slot was even given to Tom Hanks for playing a big baby ("Big"). Dear Howard Shore, please tell us more. 8:38-9:17 that extra 39 seconds has become one of my favourite moments in the whole trilogy. Merry and Pippin are fighting alongside Boromir, and Pippin uses a technique that Boromir uses seconds before to show that they did learn from him. Then the rock throwing, Boromir swinging with all his might, and the Uruk-Hai just coming at full strength, and the three continued to hold until Boromir could fight no longer.

It has some modernist touches here and there but I wouln't say it's a very inventive score. We're far from Goldsmith's Planet of the apes.

Even after all these years, this gives me goosebumps! RIP Christopher Reeve❤
